Elf on the Shelf Progress Report

Merry Christmas everyone!

For those of you with an Elf on the Shelf who is about to depart for the North Pole how about having him leave a progress report for your child. I created this little form where "your Elf" can check of what your child has done well or not at all. There are also spaces where he can write in his own categories and a notes section. There is a Nice List version as well as a Naughty List version which hopefully doesn't get used much.

Download your Elf Progress Report here.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

On Veteran's Day I wanted to share pics sent in from a sweet customer from her husband's military Change of Command where she used our Patriotic printables. Everything looks adorable and I'm glad all the soldiers and their families had a good time!

I thank you and your husband for your service to our country. It is because of people like you that we enjoy the freedoms we have and we are eternally grateful for your sacrifice.

I was so honored to be asked to participate in the Celebrations at Home Vendor Challenge. The theme for this quarter was Autumn. I am happy to show you the pictures of how it turned out. You can also view the post on the Celebrations at Home blog here. The printable collection is now in the shop and it's on SALE

I traditionally don’t do many fall designs so it was fun to so something different. I knew I wanted to use a rich fall color scheme of orange, burgundy and browns, and I wanted to use a lot of burlap. My mother is a huge fan of fall so I raided her decorations and found pumpkins and leaves. I used Dollar Store finds like leaves, mini gourds, moss and some carveable pumpkins I made into candle holders. I sprayed them metallic gold and added some spray glitter. They sat in terra cotta flower pots from my backyard. I created all the paper goods with rich patterns printed on craft paper. I used a beautiful handmade gold paper that I accented with twine to give it a rustic feel.
I knew I wanted simple foods and to do something with pancakes. Charynn from Two Sugar Babies created wonderful toppers with edible gold glitter to top the pancakes and also serve as place cardswith the guests names written on the leaves. I also made egg and bacon cups, croissants, salmon cups and mini donuts served with coffee drinks with cups and striped straws from My Little Love. The food was served on wood stumps and hand made white serving pieces. Favors were macaroons from Aly B’s Bakery a local Shreveport bakery. Several different colors were made to give a somewhat ombre effect in the push pop container. They rested in a wire basket with Spanish Moss and coordinating tags.”

{REAL PARTIES} Peace, Love and PJ's

In honor of our 800th reader we created a special set of printables for them. It turned out to be a long time customer, Rachel. I've designed her daughter's birthday invitations for many years so it was just so funny when she was the lucky number 800.

This year her daughter Hadley is turning 7! She had a bunch of her friends spend the night at a hotel for a full night of manis, pedis, make overs and I'm sure a lot of giggling. Her mom did  a great job of taking the printables created and styling the party complete with a favor station, lounge and dessert bar. This Peace, Love and PJ collection will be available in the shop by the end of the week.

Happy Birthday Hadley!

Christmas Crew 2011 Blog Hop

Welcome to the Christmas Crew 2011 Blog Hop, if this is your first stop make
sure you start at the beginning with Jen from Blush Printables

Magnolia Creative Co. was lucky enough to join a great group of ladies for the Christmas Crew 2011. This year's party was a cookie decorating party. We created some personalized ornament plates to match the color scheme in the printable designed by Jen of Blush Printables. These plates are in our shop now and make great gifts for a child, hostess or even for Santa's cookies.

We also created a serving set in matching holiday colors. The set contains a tray and condiment bowl. You can mix and match the colors of this set to create your own unique design. Like all Magnolia ceramic pieces, this set and the ornament plates are microwave and dishwasher safe.

Photography Class and Printables

This weekend I attended a photography course hosted by a good friend of mine and photographer DeAnn Arnold. She is the only photographer that we have ever used for our family and my daughter Audrey was one of her very first shoots. She advised me what camera to buy when I wanted to invest in one and start taking my own product shots. I was also very anxious to take a the class she offers to teach people how to operate their cameras and take the best pictures possible. I was required to take two photography courses in college but I remember nothing! This class helped me sooooo much. Above you'll see some shots I took unedited. I still have a little more learning to do, but from where I was, I made a HUGE improvement thanks to DeAnn.

For the class, which was held at my house, I provided some drinks and snack. I couldn't resist creating a special "Photo Class" Printable collection just for the event. You can download this "Photo Class" collection for FREE here. It would be great for a scrapbooking party or your own photo party. I printed the water bottles labels on waterproof labels purchased from Onlinelabels.com, they are the best! Hope you enjoy this new free collection as much as I loved learning more about photography and taking great pictures.

Easy Egg Free Cake Recipe

Easy Egg Free Cake Recipe
Three years ago my daughter was diagnosed as being highly allergic to eggs. A 5 on the test means you are allergic and she scored a 28! Needless to say overnight our family's diet had to change. It really wasn't that hard except when it came to sweets. It was so hard to tell her she couldn't eat cake, some ice cream or cookies at her friend's birthday parties. I learned a great trick to be able to make Audrey cakes and cupcakes without the egg!

Take 1 store bought cake mix and add one canned soda, mix together, pour into pans and bake as directed. That's it! It's so easy and it even removes all the fat that eggs and oil add in. No one could tell the difference and even complimented how light and fluffy they were. Most importantly Audrey didn't notice and that made me so happy. I have even made cupcakes and cake pops with this same method. For a white or vanilla cake use Sprite and for Chocolate use Coke, diet or regular, it does not matter.

Hopefully this helps some of you who have children with food allergies. It can be so hard and no parent wants to tell their child they can't partake in birthday traditions like CAKE! I've even found a wonderful sugar cookie and royal icing recipe that are dairy and egg free as well!

Zebra and Zinnia Party on Hostess with the Mostess

I am thrilled to have the Zebra and Zinnia party I styled with Her Royal Heinous featured on Hostess with the Mostess yesterday.

To celebrate all Zebra and Zinnia products on the website
are ON SALE through the end of the week!

The inspiration for this party came from a fabric remnant I found at Hobby Lobby. I loved the bright green color and it was enough to make a tablecloth for a small table in my daughter’s room. The hydrangeas were in full bloom at my house and we were dying to use them as a backdrop. Amelia from Her Royal Heinous came up with the Zinnia aspect, and the Zebra and Zinnias collection/party was born!

I designed the entire collateral collection which includes the invitation and matching address label, party circles, hat, table tents, banners, straw slip ons, cupcake wrappers, etc. Everything is pink, green and white with a great summer feel and embellished with pearls for a ‘lady like’ touch.

We served pink lemonade with lemons and limes, sugar cookies and rice krispy treats decorated with royal icing flowers purchased from Mochasof, chocolate, key lime and berry cupcakes from Target and Little Debbie tulip cakes placed on candy sticks. The main cake was vanilla and decorated with wafer thin pink and green butterflies purchased from Modern Luxe Events. I made the cake because my daughter is allergic to egg, which makes it difficult to purchase sweets from bakeries and stores. To make an egg free cake I simply use store bought cake mix and a sprite for white and vanilla cakes or a coke for chocolate cakes. Yes it's that easy - just the dry mix and 1 can drink, stir and bake according to the package. It works great for cupcakes too! Using the butterflies and flowers is the perfect example of how you can easily dress up a home made or store bought cake into a party perfect show piece.

Each child received their own personalized melamine dinner plate that served as a place card. The plate also matched the name card on the back of the child’s chair. The wooden flatware was purchased from Shop Sweet Lulu and was wrapped in a pink napkin and sealed with a pearl embellished napkin ring. Placed on every chair was a party hat and a favor bag filled with strawberry woppers. Each child also received a small ‘grow your own zinnia kit’ in pink, of course.

Even in the Louisiana heat the choice of sweets held up and the girls had a great time!
